Wem Rural Parish Council has been given permission to fill the current vacancies for Edstaston and Roden Wards by co-option.
This is a unique opportunity to make a difference in your local community, helping to shape the future of the parish and ensure that the voices of residents are heard.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for co-option, applicants must be aged 18 or over and a Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland, or a citizen of a Member State of the European Community. In addition, you must meet at least one of the following criteria:

Be a registered elector in the parish

Have lived in the parish (or within 3 miles of it) for at least the past 12 months

Have occupied land or premises in the parish as owner or tenant during the past 12 months

Have had your principal place of work in the parish during the past 12 months
Applicants should also be aware of legal disqualifications, including bankruptcy, recent criminal convictions resulting in a prison sentence of three months or more, and disqualification for corrupt or illegal practices under electoral law.

Elections will not be held until 2025, so successful candidates will be co-opted onto the Parish Council by vote of the existing members for the interim period.
