Wem Rural Parish Council has been given permission to fill the current vacancies for Edstaston and Roden Wards by co-option.

This is a unique opportunity to make a difference in your local community, helping to shape the future of the parish and ensure that the voices of residents are heard.

Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for co-option, applicants must be aged 18 or over and a Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland, or a citizen of a Member State of the European Community. In addition, you must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Be a registered elector in the parish

  • Have lived in the parish (or within 3 miles of it) for at least the past 12 months

  • Have occupied land or premises in the parish as owner or tenant during the past 12 months

  • Have had your principal place of work in the parish during the past 12 months

Applicants should also be aware of legal disqualifications, including bankruptcy, recent criminal convictions resulting in a prison sentence of three months or more, and disqualification for corrupt or illegal practices under electoral law.

Your letter should outline which eligibility criteria you meet and a little about your background or interest in the role.

Elections will not be held until 2025, so successful candidates will be co-opted onto the Parish Council by vote of the existing members for the interim period.
