Eligibility to Stand

To stand for election, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You must be a British citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland, or a Commonwealth citizen with leave to remain in the UK or who does not require such leave
  • You must be registered as a voter in the parish or have lived, worked, or owned property in the parish for at least 12 months prior to standing for election, or you must live within 3 miles of the parish (as per the Local Government Act 1972, Section 79(1)).
