What is the Great British Spring Clean?
The Great British Spring Clean is an annual campaign led by Keep Britain Tidy, encouraging communities to come together to tackle litter. Since its launch in 2017, the campaign has inspired thousands of people across the country to take pride in their local spaces, reducing waste and protecting wildlife.
The History of Keep Britain Tidy
Keep Britain Tidy was founded in 1954 with a mission to prevent litter and protect the environment. The organisation started as a response to increasing concerns about rubbish in public spaces and has grown into a national movement promoting recycling, sustainable practices, and community clean-ups. Their efforts have led to well-known initiatives such as the Blue Flag Award for clean beaches and the Green Flag Award for well-maintained parks.
Why It Matters
Litter isn’t just an eyesore—it can harm wildlife, pollute our waterways, and cost local councils millions in clean-up efforts each year. By volunteering for the Great British Spring Clean, you’re making a real difference, helping to create a cleaner, greener community for everyone to enjoy.
So, grab your gloves, lace up your walking shoes, and join us in making Wem a cleaner, brighter place!
Let’s work together to Keep Britain Tidy!
